Tamami Tono

ABOUT

A unique, hugely creative musician, Tamami Tono has taken part in performances hosted by the National Theatre in Japan since 1989. Performing regularly both at home and abroad, she was invited to perform for The Silk Road Project organized by Yo-Yo MA, CCMIX (Centre de Creation Musicale Iannis Xenakis in Paris). Tamami also plays at the International Society for Contemporary Music and the International Computer Music Conference, and has won many prizes at home and abroad for composing and playing the ‘Sho’. She won first prize at a composition concours held by the National Theatre in Japan, the Theatrical Art Prize, the Special Encouragement Award given by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and the Japan Culture & Art Encouragement Award, among others. She was in charge of the music at events like the HERMES Tokyo Opening and the JAXA Space Dance Project ‘HITEN’. Tamami has worked and recorded with Ryuichi Sakamoto, John Cage, and Graham Ashton. This is her first solo album.
