Sakai Forged Knives with 600 Years of History

Established 98 years ago in Sakai City, Osaka, we continue to use traditional production methods to create kitchen knives with new value and designs to fit the modern lifestyle. We make a wide range of knives, from those for home use to those used by professional chefs. Our knives are customized to the finest detail including the shape, thickness and weight. We are an early adopter of "structural testing" of our knives which was not performed in the old days. By scientifically testing the steel material used in making the knives, we are continuously studying temperature control and forging techniques to maximize the performance of the material.

"Urushi Kagekiyo" Knife Series (Gold Dust Lacquer Handle)

Fine stainless steel Japanese kitchen knives born from a collaboration of the highest grade materials, skills of the master craftsmen and the producers of the materials. High-grade stainless steel forging is difficult for knife makers in Sakai, so the quantity of knives made using the technique is still low. Sakai's skilled master craftsmen forge and sharpen these high-grade stainless steel knives. The surface of the knives as well as the backside and "Machi" are meticulously polished using the "mirror finish" technique to create aesthetically pleasing as well as high performing knives.
